Johannes Mario Simmel, whose books are said to have sold more than 70 million copies worldwide, died in the Swiss town where he lived, a local official said Friday Jan. 2, 2009. He was 84. Simmel's books regularly topped German-language best-seller lists before Nobel laureates such as Heinrich Boell and Guenter Grass.  His books include the World War II spy novel 'It can't always be caviar' and the Cold War thriller 'Dear Fatherland.'  Many of his books were translated into other languages, and the play 'The Classmate' was adapted for Broadway. AP - In an obituary of singer-songwriter Delaney Bramlett, The Associated Press, relying on information from a publicist, reported erroneous information about recordings of the song “Superstar,” which Bramlett co-wrote. The Sonic Youth version of the song was included in a 1994 tribute album to The Carpenters. It was not the most recent recording of the song.

Lark Previn, daughter of Mia Farrow, dies at 35 (AP)

Lark Previn, a daughter of actress Mia Farrow whose sister Soon-Yi Previn was at the center of Farrow's messy breakup with Woody Allen, has died. She was 35. The medical examiner's office says Lark Previn died Christmas Day at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn. No cause of death was given. A cremation was held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery. Lark Previn was born in Vietnam in 1973. She was one of three children adopted by Farrow and her then-husband, conductor Andre Previn. AIDS skeptic Christine Maggiore dies in LA at 52 (AP)

AP - Christine Maggiore, an activist who vehemently denied that HIV causes AIDS, declined to take anti-AIDS drugs and sued Los Angeles County for stating that her 3-year-old daughter succumbed to AIDS-related pneumonia, has died. She was 52.

AP - Vincent Ford, a songwriter credited with composing the Bob Marley reggae classic “No Woman, No Cry,” has died in Jamaica. He was 68.
